If you have to live with a urinary catheter, then you have to deal with the drainage bag. And if you have to deal with the bag, then you know that there are inherent problems. How do you connect them? How do they stay on/close to your body? How can you prevent the bag from pulling on your catheter? How can you prevent the bag from coming disconnected from the catheter?
Oddly, very few products over the years have addressed the answers the above questions.
For keeping the catheter tube from moving, tugging and twisting there are really only two types of products: the “stickers” and the stretchy leg bands.
For securely holding the drainage bags onto your body – usually the leg – there has really only been one way. That’s the rubber stretch bands that come with leg bags. You use them above and below the bag to hold the bag on.
The problem is that when the bags start to fill with fluid, they get heavy and the flimsy rubber bands do not do a good job holding the bag up anymore. That leads to a high risk that the bag will pull out of the catheter and/or (more dangerously) pulling the catheter itself.
Enter the Freedom Belt
Global Medical Innovations has invented a product that will improve the lives of anyone who must wear a catheter leg bag (actually, ANY non-ostomy drainage bag). The invention is called the Freedom Belt.
Here is an interview with Dr. Justin Mandel from Global Medical Innovations. He shares the the story of the Freedom Belt and the vision that Dr. Mandel and Dr. Mario Torres-Leon have to help make lives better for people.
