ParticipantI am now 2 years post-op and no changes. Still peeing very normally with no issues. Not more to say than what has already been said. Happy to answer any questions. Good luck to everyone.

ParticipantI was so relieved just over a year ago when I discovered this procedure after having multiple dilations that were painful and short lived. Fortunately, I was able to find an excellent surgeon and get to surgery pretty quickly after discovering the procedure existed.
Now I am almost 1 year post-op. NO changes since my last update 8 months ago. The experience has been truly life altering for the good. Just realized as I was writing this that I have not checked to see how the scar healed in several months. I’ll take a look when I think of it.
I’ve read many others updates throughout the year and it seems my experience was one of the better ones. I partly attribute my success to selecting a highly skilled surgeon who had literally done hundreds of these procedures. He was confident in his diagnosis, recommendation, and ability to execute.
I think many make the mistake of not fully researching who the best in the business are and end up w/ shoddy work and/or recommendations from a novice urologist. My recommendation for anyone thinking of this is to be willing to travel wherever it takes to have someone of high caliber do the work. Be prepared to stay in a hotel for a couple weeks at least. I was fortunate to have a top surgeon where I live.
Good luck to everyone going through the symptoms of a urethral stricture and contemplating urethroplasty.

ParticipantCanada3…. I had my procedure a few months after you and I have not had that issue. If anything, I experienced that before the procedure but not longer have the issue.

ParticipantShe said the SPC was plugged up so I assumed it was not functional.

ParticipantIf the post-op UCG was good, I would assume that the SPC

could
be impacting flow if the balloon is near the exit of the bladder. Possibly the effect of covering the top of the straw w/ your thumb. How long before the SPC is removed?
Also, could it be possible a UTI is causing swelling?
Has he followed up w/ his urologist? I would.

ParticipantThought I would provide an short update for posterity… I am now at 17+ weeks post-op. For several weeks now , I have been basically pain-free. Beginning at the 7 week mark, things got better pretty quickly. I still have some low grade tenderness but truly has no impact on me. The urine stream is still excellent. I look forward to peeing now… never thought I would say that.

ParticipantI’ve had 2 DVIU’s and 1 urethroplasty. There is no question in my mind… skip the DVIU and go straight to urethroplasty. Make sure you select a surgeon who specializes in urethroplasty and has hundreds of procedures on his/her resume.
It’s truly life changing. You won’t regret it.

ParticipantjohnB thanks for the update. But you left out the most important part… How is the stream???

ParticipantSara,
I had two urethrotemies performed. While they provided some temporary relief, they did not last. I assume your doctor is recommending this over urethroplasty either for risk or cost or both. Those urethrotemy procedures are not simple procedures either. My second one involved a hospital stay. Self dialation adds risk to the urethra as well.
I completed urethroplasty 8 weeks ago and I absolutely believe that anyone with strictures should strongly consider urethroplasty after 1 failed urethrotemy. However, I do believe it is important to consult with someone who is an expert and very experienced in the urethroplasty procedure. If that physician is confident he/she can be successful in correcting your issue with urethroplasty, then you should proceed accordingly.
Knowing what I know now, I would have never even bothered with the 2nd urethrotemy that I had. Urethroplasty is life altering (for the good)!!!! I’m SO SO happy with my result.
