ParticipantI have had great difficulty finding a urologist that preforms this surgery. Multiple calls and wasted visits to doctors only to have them tell me they do NOT do the surgery.
If anyone has a suggestion in Texas I would appreciate it!

ParticipantAgswith04,
My name is Steve and I had my Urethroplasty done by a doctor that is a member of http://www.turnsresearch.org. This is a organization that specializes in this type of surgery. There are about 11 surgeons in the organization. A doctor Thomas G. Smith III, MD, FACS who practices in Kerrville, Texas at Urology Associates of Kerrville is a member. Dr. Nejd F. Alsikafi, MD, FACS of Gurnee, Illinois with Uropartners is the surgeon that operated on me. They are excellent doctors and confer with each other. Sorry that I have not got back to you sooner, but I am doing so well that I am back in life and busy as can be.
My surgery was very difficult as the blockage was due to prostate cancer. My stricture was in the lower prostate. It has been 6 months since surgery. I am still a little sore but healing well. After surgery the pain was much less then I was ready for. I would do it again. Prior to surgery I was totally blocked for two years I had a super public tube.
Best of Luck

ParticipantSo…funny enough Thomas Smith is the last one that saw me back in 2014 at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. I called there when I decided it was time to do this…and was told he was Leaving/ had left.

ParticipantSo funny enough…Thomas Smith is who saw me in 2014 at Baylor College of Medicine. When I called there a couple weeks ago I was told he was leaving Baylor and they weren’t sure where. I have not had any luck tracking him down either.
Frustrating

ParticipantJust an Update…not sure if its GOOD or Bad
I did some checking around and found Dr Allen Morey at UT Southwestern in Dallas.
I went in to have a VCUG and a RUG done last week. When I got to the room , the radiologist said that the VCUG was done thru my “existing superpubic catheter” which I do NOT have. The RUG was performed very quickly, and I heard from radiologist that the RUG should be sufficient for the Dr to make a decision on surgery. I sure hope this is true…but I am very curious if that is the standard?
My consultation is not until Nov 26 with the doctor. Also they are “not sure” if I will be able to have surgery done THIS year.
Im tired of dealing with this…and hope surgery can be done ASAP.

ParticipantHey, I don’t know if you’ve already had this done, but I was told E. Charles Osterberg III at Dell Medical Center at UT Austin is good.
Good luck!
