AnonStricture
ParticipantDear All,
I am writing as I am at my wits end and I am looking for some help.
I was diagnosed with a 2mm bulbar urethral stricture in September last year. At the time I wasn’t made aware of the difficulties of treating these nasty things. At the time I had a constant urge to urinate which I can assume was caused by the obstruction in my urethra.
The surgeon that diagnosed me was less than professional, he performed a basic flexible cystoscopy, did not perform any other diagnostics aside an ultrasound on my bladder which showed normal voiding. At the time I was in no pain and although frustrated with the urgency I had a relatively normal life.
The surgeon recommended a dilation which he performed in December. Since that day I have lived in continuous pain and discomfort. Everytime I go to the toilet it burns and I have a feeling of swelling in my back passage. The initial surgeon has told me to get a second opinion and I am now under the care of the experts who have told me to wait it out. My life at this time is on hold.
Since the surgery and onwards referral I have had several flow rate tests which have gradually declined from 30ml/s to 22m/s at the last test. I can feel the stricture coming back in my penis so I know the surgery has not cured by stricture. I have a urethragram scheduled for the end of July.
If anyone has any tips on hope to cope and manage I would be really grateful, I struggle from day to day with the discomfort and pain. I am unable to go to the toilet without the burning sensation and I feel like I need to go to the toilet every waking minute of the day.
I am reluctant to have another scope at this time but I assume this is inevitable as the stricture is gradually reoccurring.
Any help/advice greatly received.

Participanthi, first i would like to clarify something: you said your bulbar stricture is coming back and you can feel this in your penis? Also what does it feel like, does it bother you all the time? or only when urinating?

ParticipantHi,
I’ve had my follow-up urethrogram which has shown no evidence of stricture recurrence.
Unfortunately the pain is a dull constant burning which gets worse AFTER urination and this can last for hours. Much of the burning is localised to the base of my penis.
I also have a persistent swelling in my back passage… it’s a total nightmare.

ParticipantJust a thought but have you been tested for a STI? If follow up are showing everything is ok perhaps it may be something else. You certainly would need to rule this out before going for a second opinion
