Tips To Help Make Life With A Catheter A Little Easier
Living With A Urinary Catheter › Forums › Urethral Strictures And Their Treatments › Slowing of Flow 5 Weeks Post Urehtroplasty
Hello,
I am in the fifth week of recovery after my urethroplasty surgery and have started to notice a slight decrease in the flow of my urine. I was just wondering if this is something I should be super concerned about or if it is normal for the flow to fluctuate by a little from time to time. I don’t have any pain in the area and up until this point everything seemed to be healing perfectly! But now that its the third or so day of it slightly slowing down, I’m starting to worry about the success of the operation.
I’ve already scheduled an appt. for a Uroflow test in two days. I wasn’t supposed to have my next checkup until another month from now.
Thanks!
It’s not unusual for there to be some slowdown after all of the tissue settles down. Sometimes it’s because of scar tissue buildup, sometimes it’s your prostate, sometimes they have no idea. It’s not a concern unless it drops below a certain point. If your last test showed 25ml/sec and it’s suddenly 15ml/sec, that’s actually not a big deal. 15 would still be considered a great output. If it’s under 5, well that might be more worrisome.
It’s probably not a problem, since nearly everyone who’s had a urethroplasty has had the same concern, but it would be a good idea to have it checked out, if nothing else than to ease your mind. Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

DO NOT WORRY! Like you I got very paranoid and experienced this. I’m now 1 year on and doing just fine! Check out my blog. I wrote quite a lot about this. It’s to do with the urethra settling down to normal calibre after being somewhat stretched by the catheter remaining in place for a long amount of time. Here is my blog address.
