Tips To Help Make Life With A Catheter A Little Easier
Living With A Urinary Catheter › Forums › General Discussion › No confidence in hospital and nurses to install a catheter
Hi, I have had a catheter for 15 months . The first one was put in by a doctor at Grimsby hospital but it did not work. 3 more were put in within 2 hours but non of them worked [ no urine flow ] Finally got one to work and was sent home . Since then 2 nurses came to our home to put a catheter in , but the first one did not work so the other nurse had a go but still did not work so they phoned for a ambulance to take me to hospital I was kept waiting for 14 hours in great pain before a catheter was put in . sent home 7 hours later.. 2 more nurses came within a few weeks but the head nurse tried to put a catheter in ,but used all the 4 that I had before ringing foe a ambulance , another very long wait in hospital, Last month 2 more nurses came but this time a learner had a go at putting one in , however there was no flow except for a lot of blood. taken to Grimsby hospital and waited 6 hours before being told that there was no one that could put a catheter in , so sent me by ambulance to Scunthorpe hospital 50 miles away. at 2am a doctor tried to put a catheter in but took him nearly one hour. After that he finally got one in which had to be changed before I could go home. I am due to have a replacement catheter within a few weeks but not looking forward to this at all. This is only part of the story …Would I be better off with a Sueprubic catheter and is that less of a problem to install. Sorry if this is all doom and gloom but that’s the way it has been so far. There must be some one that could get it right….Kind regards Alan [ 85 year old and frustrated ]
