Tips To Help Make Life With A Catheter A Little Easier
Living With A Urinary Catheter › Forums › Urethral Strictures And Their Treatments › Need name of urethroplasty expert
Tagged: Brandes "new york" urethroplasty
I’m 90 miles north of New York City and have been told by my local urologist that I need a urethroplasty done to gt rid of my stricture (scar tissue as the result prostate radiation). Can anyone recommend a surgeon who has extensive experience doing this type of reconstructive surgery on men? I’m thinking of seeing Dr. Steven Brandes at Columbia University Medical
Center but would appreciate any other recommendations (or thoughts about Dr. Brandes).
Thanks.
Dennis S.
Did you have the procedure?
TURNS is a organization of doctors that specialize in urinary reconstructive surgery. I am using Dr. Alsikafi in Gurnee, IL. I am 73 and have a stricture due to radiation treatment. The stricture is located at the bottom of the prostate down thru the sphincter valve. Dr. Alsikafi has done many of these operations successfully. I live in Naples, FL and travel to see this doctor. Currently I am using a catheter. I am at the beginning stage of the process.
THE PROCESS:
-Consultation.
-Bladder pressure test (make sure the bladder is functioning).
-Insertion of a super pubic catheter (must be in place for one month).
-Operation (Super pubic and urethra tube remain in for one month.)
-Urethrogram and removal of tubes.
-Three month visual check.
