Tips To Help Make Life With A Catheter A Little Easier
Living With A Urinary Catheter › Forums › Urethral Strictures And Their Treatments › My story so far
Here’s a quick overview of what I’ve been dealing with. I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer a little over 5 years ago, I had a prostatectomy(removal of my prostate) I re occurred and had salvage radiation to the pelvic area which began my journey with strictures. My issue is a bladder neck constricture along with tissue inflammation in the posterior urethra. I’ve had 2 total blockages of urinary flow in the last 1 year, both times I was dialated with the last dialation left me incontinent.
I am scheduled for urethroplasty surgery this Tuesday, the ultimate goal being to place an artificial spinchter in me so my incontinence will be controlled.
It’s been a tough road up to this time, here’s a question for anyone who has had the surgery, how did you handle the constipation side of things? I have a tendency to get really stopped up when pain medicine is involved.
Any suggestions ?
David
David,
Good luck today.
Post-surgery I was worried about constipation issues too. Right after surgery they got me on Colace which I took until the cath came out. Not to be gross but, I remember that first time after the surgery it was maybe a day or two after. My wife who had recently had a baby similar muscle stuff) told me to relax facial/mouth muscles as it is tied to sphincter muscles. Don’t know if this helps at all.
Oh yeah…stay hydrated.
Good luck to you David.
