Tips To Help Make Life With A Catheter A Little Easier

1) Limit the number of times you replace the bag. A catheter system is closed and anytime you change a bag there is a risk of introducing bacteria.
2) Buy a bag with enough capacity to wear during the day and night. I stopped using overnight bags because the risk of a UTI increases because at that moment one makes the switch exposes the closed system to bacteria no matter how careful you are. I use a bag which holds 800ml. I do wake up during the night a couple of times and pat the bag.
3) Wear cotton briefs.
4) Install a bidet to wash yourself. Having a catheter can cause constipation and multiple visits to the toilet.
I wear a catheter instead of super absorbent briefs. It’s a lifestyle choice. I’ve got more tips but would like to hear others. No UTI’S in the past 3-years!!!
