Tips To Help Make Life With A Catheter A Little Easier
Living With A Urinary Catheter › Forums › General Discussion › Hello from UK
Hi Everyone
I’m glad I have found this site as there’s not much around regarding living with a catheter, so thank you.
Hopefully my indwelling catheter will be temporary. I’ve had it for 2-3 weeks so far following my hospital admission for urine retention. This was caused by my enlarged prostate and, it seems, the effect of inappropriate medication which has now been stopped.
I am mostly okay with my catheter in place, no real major problems so far. Having said that, there is an emotional side to it. First of all I was told I’d be having a pre-operation assessment next week and then the HoLEP operation carried out urgently. Yesterday I called the hospital to see if any of this has been firmed up only to be told ‘m simply on a waiting list and no indication as to what “urgent” means.
So have they forgotten me? Will I have this tube inside me forever? Will life ever be normal again? This are all questions which run through my mind in the middle of the night.
You know, I had just started a blog and had done just one post before I was suddenly admitted to hospital for 5 days. While I was in hospital I did do a little blogging by phone and this all coincides with quitting my job! http://maturingwell.co.uk/index.php/2018/05/13/living-with-an-indwelling-catheter/
Hey Doug,
How are you making out? Hope you are better.
Thanks for asking Ross. I’m fine.
Quite a journey with a catheter from April to November when I had my HoLEP operation.
My holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) experience
Since then I am resigned to be a life time member of the Messed Up Kidney Club (because of urine retention) and the Intermittent Catheter Club.
Happy to share my experience with anyone on the same pathway.
Keep pushing brother. Cheers
