I have written about the Freedom Belt before on this site, as in this post – Get Active Again With Freedom Belt™. But last year there was a supply-chain issue and several people tried to order them but couldn’t.
But now (really!) they are in stock and ready for immediate shipping (2-3 days). Also, since my first mention of Freedom Belt here, they have developed the 2nd generation version. It has some pretty nifty tech that makes this thing a comfortable way to hold up even the heaviest leg bag comfortably and securely.
I tried one out a few weeks ago. You can just about forget you even have a leg bag on when it is secured by the Freedom Belt. I attached a Hollister leg bag to the belt, and filled the bag to its maximum capacity (and weight). Then I wore it around for hours. Wow! I wish I had this when I was going through my months of wearing an indwelling catheter.
If you wear a leg bag, you’re probably aware of the almost useless elastic bands that you’re supposed to use to hold the bag to your leg. And as soon as it starts to fill up, it starts to slide down your leg. This is not only uncomfortable, it pulls on the catheter tube, which is pretty painful, especially if you have a suprapubic catheter. And it’s super dangerous! You constantly worry that that the leg bag tube will pull out of the catheter tube, causing a huge mess in your pants and all around you. I had this happen at a friend’s house. Luckily he had hard-wood floors and was VERY understanding!
But with the Freedom Belt it is just about impossible for the bag to put any downward pressure on the catheter tube. It is secured by two straps that come down from the belt that is around your waist. The clips at the end of the straps grab onto the top of ANY brand of leg bag and hold it so secure that it is NOT going anywhere.
