Tips To Help Make Life With A Catheter A Little Easier
Living With A Urinary Catheter › Forums › General Discussion › Catheter blood
Hey guys sorry for all the posts, just probably a little paranoid and you all help calm me down.
I was just curious if a little
Bit of blood around the catheter is normal everyday or if this is something I should contact my doctor about. Thanks again for your guys answers and advice!
Sorry, I wrote a response earlier, but for some reason it never showed up.
A little blood isn’t all that unusual, especially after having a bowel movement or a bladder spasm. Normally it’s either irritation from the catheter or bleeding from the surgery site itself. Sometimes a small amount of urine is actually mixed in as well, making it appear as though there’s more than there is. You can put some Vaseline or KY jelly on the tip of your penis to help lubricate and protect it.
I would call the doctor’s office and speak with a nurse, just to let them know and double check. None of us are actually doctors as far as I know, we just pretend 🙂

I get a small amount of discharge around the catheter, which occassionally is blood coloured. I asked the Urologist about it and he said it isn’t anything to worry about, it is just the body’s natural cleaning action. Without a catheter it wouldn’t be noticed as the urine would flush it each time.
