ParticipantI thought I posted this bit it did not go through. How do doctors determine if you need a 2 stage vs 1 stage procedure? If you need a 2 stage procedure, how long between procedures?

ParticipantHey man- posted on another one of your posts regarding stricture pain.
As I mentioned in that one, you really need to overcome any fears you may have and go get a cystoscopy. It is preferable to do this with someone who specializes in urological reconstruction. This will answer any and all questions really, as far as what you will need to do to address the stricture.
I live in Western NY and flew into NYC in August to have a consultation with Dr Lee C Zhao at NYU Langone. He does about 120 urethroplasty’s per yr, so it’s basically his job. They did a cystoscopy, flow test, and bladder ultrasound all in one visit. It was a breeze and instilled confidence in going through with a corrective procedure.
The plan is a 1 stage urethroplasty w/buccal graft for me. You should check out turnsresearch.org and search for the surgeon closest to you, these guys specialize in urethral reconstructive surgery. You won’t answer any questions with legitimate answers unless you go see someone who specializes in this stuff. Also, don’t just go see your local urologist, I learned that the hard way, big waste of time. This isn’t a run of the mill surgery for general urologists.

ParticipantThanks. Im getting a cystoacopy in a couple of weeks with my local uro. If it is strictures my local URO rwcommended Dr. Vanni who is out of Mass. Hs is supposed to be a top urethroplasty surgeon on the east coast. One step at a time. The Uro I saw today (not my regular uro) said it os possible that my bladder is not filling up enough, but also said I need a cystoscopy. Any tips on the cystoscopy…they gave me 1 valium pill for it.

ParticipantThey gave you a pill in advance? I was given a pill following the procedure for pain (not sure if ibuprofen or what) but didn’t need it. If done properly it should be a breeze. I would just ask Vanni how many urethroplasties he does per year, that was a big concern I had with dr’s. I wanted someone who literally does this on the regular.
