Odiez, glad your husband got the surgery. It’s truly the best course of action for this condition. The early part of the recovery is the hardest. Pooping while you have a Foley catheter in is definitely a weird experience. It helps if you can get off the opioid pain reliever and if you’re eating fiber and taking your docusate sodium (Colase) to soften the stool. Once the urge to poop hits, the trick is to take your time and try to relax as much as possible. Don’t bear down at all to get the BM out — just slowly relax and let it happen.
