Hi Barry,
I don’t have experience with self-dilation, but I did get a urethroplasty and can attest to its effectiveness (even though I’ve been experiencing some residual discomfort as you’ve seen in my other post). I just wanted to write to say I would recommend getting a consultation with an experienced surgeon. I had mine done with Dr. Joel German at UC Irvine’s center for urethral reconstruction. He is very dedicated and passionate about what he does. When I wrote him an email for the first time out of the blue, he got back to me right away with an answer and an scheduled appointment ready. His whole team were very professional throughout the whole process as well. I know it’s quite far from wake forest, but with these surgeries, I’ve heard it’s important to get someone with lots of experience. I would at least check out the website to educate yourself about what options are available to you: https://www.centerforreconstructiveurology.org/physicians/gelman/#.WzlQJJNRWEc. I know there are centers at other universities as well. Good luck!
