My doctor stressed to me that repeat urethrotomy and dilation are not curative for urethral stricture. The only thing that is curative is urethroplasty. Many urologists are not trained or comfortable performing urethroplasties and so they don’t recommend it. Of course, they don’t have to suffer the trauma the patient does, going in repeatedly for dilations and cystoscopies! My first urologist was like that.
